Making Spring moss baskets

April 11, 2010

Bennie’s grandparents make hanging flower baskets every spring. Once the flowers mature and fluff them out a bit, they are gorgeous.

Materials:

wire frame, moss, plastic liner, potting soil, plants, helpers (toddlers and kitties work well)

How to:

Line wire frame with moss all around. The more the moss is already holding together, the better. Working with small chunks of moss is tricky. Tuck plastic liner into the basket and fill with potting soil. You can do without the liner, but everything will hold together much better with the liner. Plant your basket with whatever flowers, decorative grasses, etc. you want! Tuck lobelia and other trailing plants into the moss on the outside. Voila!

Much fun was had by all involved!
