Hawthorne Street Fair

August 17, 2009

We went to the Hawthorne Street Fair today by bike. Benecia got her face painted (The lady was surprised at how B held so still.. I think Bennie took it extremely seriously.) The weather was sunny, and a series of streets were closed off for Sunday Parkways, a program the city initiated to block off streets and allow for a bike zone. There were thousands of bikers out – and lots of kids riding, or getting towed in one of the many glorious cargo bikes, as always.

Just a few of the family hauling bikes around town we drool over:

bakfiets and metrofiets dutch style cargo bikes

kidztandem (I saw one for the first time today – kind of like a tagalong, except the kid is in front)

xtracycles (kits to expand your bike into a longtail, with saddlebags for hauling stuff and a seat where kids can sit in back)
